What is it about?

Discover India’s manufacturing industry from the inside out. You will interact with artisans in rural Rajasthan, witness high-tech manufacturing in Gujarat, get inspired by slum entrepreneurs in Mumbai and meet policy makers in Delhi. You can expect workshops, lectures and panel discussions hosted by academic and industry experts, as well as group challenges.
The programme runs from 1– 14 July. Mumbai, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Delhi will be your classroom on this two-week learning-curve.
You will learn about 3D printing in previously unconnected villages and automation and artificial intelligence in high-end factories, as well as rural textiles and more traditional handicrafts.  These placements are supported by UKIERI and delivered by IndoGenius.

When and where?

You will need to arrive in Mumbai no later than 7.00am on Wednesday 1 July 2015. Accommodation at the hotel will be provided the night of 30 June 2015. The programme ends in Delhi on the evening of Tuesday 14 July 2015. That is the last night’s accommodation provided at the hotel.
You must be available to complete the whole placement that you have applied for. It is not possible to start late or leave early.

What will I gain?

The global skills participants learn will not only provide insight into how to make in India, but also how to make for India. You will also learn to recognise the importance of local context and knowledge and how products made for India can reach global markets.
Practical sessions and activities will develop your teamworking, communication and problem solving skills and give you real life experience to add to your CV and interview repertoire.
Add to that, two weeks of stories, contacts for a lifetime and a chance to see the real India. What’s not to like?

Who are we looking for?

This programme is intended for all young people in the UK who possess a strong interest in the historical trends, economic opportunities, and social consequences of advances in manufacturing —and investigating firsthand how these changes are occurring before our eyes in India’s rural and urban innovation value chains today. All successful applicants will be required to sign and adhere to the programme’s Code of Conduct.
